Terms of Use

The rules for using ShoSpeak, written as plainly as we can.

Last updated: October 10, 2026

1. Agreeing to these terms

By creating a ShoSpeak account or using the app, you agree to these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. If you use ShoSpeak with a child, you agree to these terms on their behalf as their parent, guardian or caregiver. Because ShoSpeak is downloaded from the App Store, Apple's standard license terms also apply.

2. Your account

  • Accounts must be created by an adult (18 or older) — a parent, guardian, caregiver, teacher or therapist.
  • Keep your password and profile PINs private. You are responsible for activity on your account.
  • Give accurate information and keep your email address up to date so you can receive sign-in codes.

3. Plans and payments

  • ShoSpeak requires a plan: Single or Family. After creating an account, you choose a plan to start using the app.
  • Plans are monthly or yearly subscriptions sold and billed by the app store you download ShoSpeak from (currently Apple, through your Apple account). They renew automatically at the end of each month or year unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. If you cancel, your plan stays active until the end of the period you already paid for; it just won't renew.
  • New subscribers may get a 7-day free trial. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the plan starts and you are billed automatically. One free trial per account.
  • You can manage or cancel a plan anytime in your device's Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops future charges; you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
  • Refunds are handled by the app store under its own policies (for Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com).
  • Each plan has device and profile limits shown in the app. When an account goes over its limit, ShoSpeak may sign out a device.
  • We may change prices in the future. The app store will tell you before any change affects your subscription.

4. Using ShoSpeak

  • Use ShoSpeak only for lawful, personal or educational purposes.
  • Don't try to break, copy, reverse engineer or overload the app or its servers, or access other families' information.
  • Only add photos and words you have the right to use.

5. Your content

Words, phrases and photos you add stay yours. You give us permission to store, back up and display them only so we can provide ShoSpeak to your family. We don't use your content for anything else.

6. Our content

The ShoSpeak app, name, logo and design belong to ShoSpeak. Some picture symbols come from OpenMoji and Mulberry Symbols (© Steve Lee), used under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license. Some animal sounds are public-domain (CC0) recordings.

7. Important: not a medical device

ShoSpeak is a communication tool. It is not medical advice and does not diagnose or treat any condition. It does not replace a speech-language pathologist or other professional. ShoSpeak is not designed for emergencies — please don't rely on it to call for help in an emergency.

8. Availability and changes

We work hard to keep ShoSpeak running and your data safe, but the app is provided "as is" and we can't promise it will always be available or error-free. Talking works offline, but sign-in, backup and sync need the internet. We may update, change or stop features; if we ever shut ShoSpeak down, we'll give reasonable notice.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, ShoSpeak is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for lost data, arising from your use of the app. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for ShoSpeak in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

10. Ending your account

You can delete your account anytime in Settings → Delete Account. We may suspend accounts that break these terms or misuse the service.

11. Changes to these terms

If we make important changes, we'll update the date above and let you know in the app or by email. Continuing to use ShoSpeak after a change means you accept the new terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If the law where you live gives you protections that can't be changed by agreement (for example, consumer protection laws), those still apply to you.
